Guess what I got today, hot off the printer? (Activities Press, by the way. They do a phenomenal job!) That's right, Love and Capes #5! They look beautiful, and should be in stores in a couple of weeks, and then available on the website a couple of weeks after that.
Comic-Con? Connnnnnnnn!
With a little over a week before the huge San Diego Hollywood Shillorama and Comic Convention, I thought I'd take a moment to describe the funness that will be happening at the Maerkle Press booth.
First off, we're at Booth #2000 at Hall C in the Independent Publishers Pavillion. I'll be sharing my booth with my fellow co-conspirator Paul Merolle and Toon Tumblers. I can't recommend Paul's glasses highly enough. They're almost all I drink out of. (In fact, I'm currently enjoying a Diet Lemon Snapple out of a Colossus glass.) Paul will have some new glasses there, all of which were designed by me. Please, buy them and help subsidize my salary.
So what will I have at the booth?
Giveaways
The Love and Capes buttons are back! There'll be a limited number of the previous "pink" Love and Capes button design, and the new "blue" design, too.
And, there's a new set of Love and Capes bookmarks, each featuring a four panel sequence from some of your favorite moments from Love and Capes #2-3. Thanks to the kind people at Wizard Graphics, Inc. who supplied these for me.
Premieres
There will be an extremely limited number of Love and Capes Glasses available, thanks to the aforementioned Toon Tumblers. I don't have the exact pricing, but they should be between $10-12 each.
And, as mentioned so many other places, I'll have the Love and Capes T-shirts. The red shirts are available for a donation, any donation, to The Hero Initiative. And I'll have the standard black ones available for $20.
Depending on shipping schedules, too, there might, just might, be the fifth issue in a certain heroically super situation comedy there as well.
Contests
The deadline for the "Who Wants to Create a Superhero" contest is coming to a close soon, but you'll still be able to get entry forms and enter at the show.
I'll also be raffling off an appearance in Love and Capes #6. Just sign up at the booth
And Everything Else
The complete run of Love and Capes will be available for purchase. I'll have a limited number of Raider: A Cold Day in Heaven and Raider: Dead Men's Tales.
Whew! That's enough, isn't it?
Order It Now!
Love and Capes #5 is in Previews this week! It's order code JUN07 3740, so be sure to ask for it, well, by numbers I guess. Here's the official solicitation:
Spend some time with comicdom's favorite super-couple, and this time Abby's finding out that time is the problem. She's dating the world's mightiest workaholic, and getting some time alone with her boyfriend - the Crusader - is becoming as much of a battle as any menace he has to fight. How do you share your boyfriend with the world? Plus, learn how Darkblade stays sharp, and Amazonia continues to make her presence felt.
And, since I really, really want you to buy it, I'm posting two full pages of the book for you to check out. Here's page five and page eight. Enjoy!
The book will be out in early August.
The Big Shirt Announcement!
You've been waiting for the announcement, I know. So click here and find out how to buy your cool Love and Capes t-shirt. (The image of the lovely ladies is a digital composite... I'm working on getting real samples on models soon!) I'm taking pre-orders now, and the shirts will be availablein sizes from Small to XXX-Large, and in time for San Diego.
I'm Doing It…
Video Jukebox
I've finally had the time to do my video editing on my Kickin' It With Kenny appearance. I did a lot of bumps doing cartoons of the news and of the crew, but here are the two spots where I actually got to speak. You can download the first one or the second one, and hear me talk about Free Comic Book Day. All clips are in QuickTime/mp4/iPod format.
Okay, that should be it for the Thom Zahler Media Onslaught, Free Comic Book Day edition. Until next year… bwah-hah-hah-hah!

Just For Kicks
I just found out that I'll be a guest on the Fox-8 Morning Show here in Cleveland on Monday, April 30th. The show airs from 7:00am-9:00am, and I'll be on the Kickin' It With Kenny segments. Kenny's a good guy, and it's always fun hanging with him. I'll be doing the live drawing commentary thing, and talking about Free Comic Book Day and… oh, wait for it… Love and Capes.
So set your TiVos and see if I can drink enough coffee to be awake and chipper at that un-Thomly hour.

Love and Capes Newest Issue Joins Free Comic Book Day.
Thom Zahler's "heroically super" situation comedy comic book, Love and Capes, continues it's popular run when issue #4 debuts as part of Free Comic Book Day on May 5th. "As far as I can tell, this will mark the first time a regular, continuing series, has offered it's newest book as part of this outstanding outreach effort." said creator, Thom Zahler.
Love and Capes is the ongoing story of Abby and Mark. She's a bookstore owner. He's an accountant who also happens to be the city's top super powered crime fighter, The Crusader. This situation offers some hilarious and offbeat challenges to their romantic relationship. In issue #4, The Arachnerd movie has been released, and Mark’s just a little jealous of it. Worse yet, Darkblade’s movie company is the one that made it. If that's not bad enough, the Liberty League has voted Arachnerd in as their newest member, and Mark’s been selected to tell him. Meanwhile, Abby and Mark, with her sister Charlotte, go to her family’s reunion picnic, where her brother, Quincy, takes particular delight in giving Mark grief.
Love and Capes #4 also features a special page on how the book is put together, from thumbnail to finished art.
Free Comic Book Day, as the name implies, is a day when participating comic book specialty stores nationwide, provide free comic books to everyone who visits their shops. To find a participating comic book shop near you and for additional information, visit www.freecomicbookday.com. Look for Love and Capes #4 at your favorite comic book shop on Saturday May 5th.
